In this month’s issue of Yokowo’s newsletter, we would like to introduce Yokowo’s high speed data transmission connector.

5G Mobile Communication Systems has been announced and becoming more widely used everyday. Recently, the spread of online service like web meeting and social net working service, the need for data capacity and data transmission speeds have increased. Now it is essential to transmit with high speeds in this 5G environment. It is assumed that data transmission speed for 5G is 1-10Gbps(20Gbps maximum), which is about 100 times faster than 4G(75-100MGbps).

Features of 5G is not only high speed, but also the simultaneous connection of multiple devices is 10 times than 4G.  This will help consumers use online network services without any stress to the system.

5G also helps to develop the IOT (Internet Of Things) or ICT (Information and Communication Technology).
Demand for high-speed transmissions is getting bigger as more devices are carrying more data. One well known connector is the USB connector.
Yokowo developed a “high speed transmission connector” that has the advantages of a spring connector. (10Gbps; equivalent to USB3.1 Gen2)


The advantages of Spring Connectors is its “high durability” and “robustness”, Yokowo does make a high-speed transmission connector.  It has been evaluated by many customers, when connecting a device to a PC, it’s often attached and detached frequently, and durability and strength are often required.

【Product Story ~ High Speed Data Transmission Connector ~】

USB connectors are widely used for data transmission thanks to its convenience. USB connector’s weakness is that it can easily break.
USB cables are replaceable at a reasonable price, but replacing/repairing a device can get costly, especially for expensive devices such as control units and measuring equipment.
To address this issue, we started developing spring connectors for high-speed data transmission use.

In order for spring connectors to be used for high-speed data transmission purposes, we conducted a SI simulation and developed an optimum pinout with a shielding component (made by stamping) for GND.
However, the design with a shielding component would inevitably have an uneven surface as same as PC/Smartphone’s interface have concave (凹) feature.
Customers’ concerns were that the uneven surface could catch debris/water, therefore it isn’t suitable for outdoor use.
The current design of our high-speed data transmission connector is free from such concerns, with all the functions assigned to springs pins including GND, and waterproof feature is also incorporated.

【Variations to Yokowo high speed transmission connector】

●High speed transmission two-piece blade connectors.

By combining our two-piece blade connector and high-speed transmission technology, we are developing the high-speed transmission two-piece blade connector.
Yokowo’s key feature of the two-piece blade connector, the “floating function” and its specifications, with the combination of the 10Gbps(equivalent to USB3.1 Gen2)

Optical Transceiver

We’ve introduced not only electrical transmission but also an optical one. 
By developing an original optical-to-electrical converter module, we’ve reduced the size of our product, which is 1/3 the size of a standard SFP+.
We also developed an original transceiver, which has a combined optical + electrical interfaces, and by using the optical/electrical composite cable specified by us, can transmit large amounts of data & supply power at the same time.

We can provide demo products for testing purposes.

【Editor’s Notes】
